Happy Baby’s daddy left late last week to head back overseas for work. We frequently get the opportunity to video chat with one another (Skype is AWESOME!), and of course we can take advantage of regular snail mail (it really is slow as a snail when it’s going all that way) and email. When he was there before, Happy Baby was only 6 months old. I would always hold him up to the webcam so Daddy could see him, and so that he could see Daddy. At the time, Happy Baby didn’t seem a bit interested in what was happening on this computer screen. He could interact and smile at me and other people just fine, so long as they were in 3D. Luckily, Daddy came home and was able to have lots of bonding time with Happy Baby before he left again. Daddy said leaving this time was a little harder since Happy Baby is so animated and active. When Daddy left the first time, Happy Baby was just a little burrito…only 2 months old!
I’m happy to report that Happy Baby recognizes Daddy in 2D now. There is nothing more precious than watching your soon to be 11 month old play peek-a-boo with his Daddy who is 7,000+ miles away! Happy Baby waved hello and said “Hi dada” today! I think the smile on Daddy’s face is just as rewarding! What a difference a few months makes…I was really worried that Happy Baby was not going to really take an interest in our video chats, but he’s eased my anxiety already!

I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for Daddy to be so far away and missing so many moments with Happy Baby. Those peek-a-boo moments must be precious… maybe worth recording for YouTube…?
